What is SEO and Why do I need it?

SEO stand for Search Engine Optimization and it is the practice of making your website visible to the search engines. Not only visible, but also making it relevant. One major piece of this is editing the website content and its HTML coding to make it relevant with specific keywords that describe the webpage and what it is about. But it goes deeper than that.

Do you need SEO?

Well you have spent the time and money to develop a website for your particular need, now you need visitors. A website without visitors’ might-as-well be a diary. So unless you expect all of your visitors to come from directly typing in your URL, the answer is “Yes. You need SEO.”

But depending on what your current situation is you might need more than that. What I mean is, if you already have a website that was build without search engine optimization in mind, it might be cheaper to have your website redesigned. Of course that is not always the situation. Sometime your website might only need a few modifications here and there to help move it up in the search engine rankings. But there is no magic formula to get you there. It takes researching for the best keywords, proper HTML and CSS coding, good external links and quality, original content.

So while the answer is “Yes, you need it.”, the real answer is “You need a good web designer.” You need your website to be optimized for search engines to crawl it, and a good web designer can deliver the results you, not only want, but need.
